DR.EV Tesla Repair Toronto, Model X Headlight Repair

Updated: Jun 12

👁️‍🗨️Overview

A Tesla Model X was brought into our Toronto service center with a malfunctioning left front headlight(Passenger Side). The customer described issues including flickering daytime running lights (DRLs) and intermittent headlight function. Upon thorough inspection, our technicians traced the root cause to connector corrosion and a compromised headlight seal, both resulting from water ingress.

🔍Diagnostic Summary

Our standard diagnostic protocol revealed:

  • Corroded Headlight Connector – Clear oxidation and residue buildup were present, impairing electrical continuity.

  • Moisture Inside Headlight – Visible condensation indicated internal water penetration due to failed sealing.

  • Electrical Irregularity – DRL terminals showed intermittent voltage during circuit testing.

📌 We confirmed that this was not normal condensation—it was water ingress, which requires component replacement, not just cleaning or resealing.

🛠️Replacement Procedure

1. Connector Replacement
The corroded connector was removed
and replaced with a new, weather-sealed terminal to restore proper electrical contact.

New OEM headlight assembly lit up post‑installation to verify correct DRL and beam activation.

2. Headlight Assembly Replacement
Following Tesla’s service manual procedures:
  • Removed the front fascia and underhood storage unit.
  • Disconnected the damaged headlight harness.
  • Installed a new OEM headlight assembly with full torque specs applied.
  • Reconnected and sealed all electrical points.
  • Reinstalled fascia and storage unit, restoring factory fitment.

✅ Post-Repair Validation

After completing the hardware replacement, the vehicle underwent comprehensive system testing:

  • Full lighting system check – DRLs, low/high beams, and turn signals were tested and confirmed operational.

  • Moisture test – No internal condensation or leaks were detected in the new headlight.

  • Dashboard inspection – No faults or warning lights remained.

The vehicle was returned to the customer with fully restored headlight function and enhanced nighttime visibility.
