🛡️ Tesla Model X HEPA Filter Replacement | Cabin Air Quality Service
👁️🗨️Overview
A Tesla Model X came into our Concord facility for a scheduled HEPA filter replacement. The driver had noticed reduced airflow from the vents and an increase in cabin odors — common signs that the filter had reached the end of its service life. The HEPA filter is a crucial part of Tesla’s Bio-Weapon Defense Mode, keeping airborne pollutants and allergens out of the cabin.
🔍 Diagnostic & Pre-Service Check
Our standard inspection revealed:
Reduced airflow from cabin vents
Increased HVAC fan noise
Faint odors inside the cabin
Last known replacement was over 2 years ago
Upon removal of the upper frunk components, we confirmed the original HEPA filter was heavily contaminated with visible dust and debris.
🛠️ Replacement Procedure
Performed by our trained Tesla technicians:
Powered down the vehicle and disabled HVAC system
Removed frunk liner and windshield cowl to access the HEPA chamber
Disconnected front high-voltage safety loop for technician protection
Removed old HEPA filter and cleaned the housing
Installed new Tesla-approved HEPA filter with OEM housing cover
Reassembled all parts and cleared service area
Tested fan airflow and air quality sensors post-installl
📸 Work In Progress
Our certified technicians performed the Tesla Model X HEPA filter replacement with precision, following each safety step. Here's the full breakdown:
🔧 Step 1: Frunk Panel & Cover Removal
We removed the upper storage tray, cowl cover, and surrounding seals to gain access to the HEPA filter housing.

🔧 Step 2: HEPA Filter Removal
After removing the sealing lid and filter tray, the used HEPA filter was revealed. The filter had significant dust buildup, restricting airflow.

🔧 Step 3: New HEPA Filter Installation
The new filter was installed with all seals aligned to ensure proper airflow. Housing and cover were torqued to spec.

✅ Post-Service Validation
HVAC system rebooted and fan tested
Airflow restored and noise reduced
Bioweapon Defense Mode functional
No DTCs or alerts remained
